Stir Me Up a Skinny Summer Margarita

Now is the perfect time to stir up a skinny summer margarita. Clearly, I was never a fan before because I think I had that old school tequila taste stuck in my mouth from decades ago. I remember being in Cancun and that tequila was not the same as the Patron my lake friends got me to try a couple summers ago. I was skeptical, but I’m glad I took a chance because YUM!

The one thing about a margarita is it’s usually loaded with sugar. I went looking for an alternative and I tweaked a few things to come up with my own version. Enjoy!

The Stuff for the Skinny

  • Patron Silver Tequila
  • Limes…and lots of them (I usually use about 3-4)
  • Ice…more if it’s hot
  • LaCroix Sparkling Water (Lemon or Lime)
  • Optional: Splash of OJ (I usually omit this because I like a basic taste)
  • Homemade honey water (skinny simple syrup or agave)

Shake, Shake, Shake it Up

Add ice to a cocktail shaker. Pour in 1-2 ounces of tequila depending on how crazy you want to be. Use a citrus press to squeeze in 3-4 limes. Splash in some orange juice. Next, add about 1/4 cup of your homemade simple syrup and finish off your lowball glass with sparkling water. The amount of sparkling water you use is up to you. I actually pour it to the top (depending on what type of glass you are using) and keep adding the entire can as I drink the margarita. Garnish with a salt/sugar rim and lime wedge.

If there’s one season I am love with, it’s summer. Find a nice deck, stir up your skinny summer margarita, and feel that summer joy rushing through you. I can feel it now. Find other drink recipes on the blog here.

Editors Note: If you want, throw it all in a blender for a blended margarita. Also, replace the Patron Silver for Habanero, throw in a jalapeno, add your limes and viola’ – you have a whole different twist on a different skinny marg.
