Step Up November – 30 Day Joy Challenge

Keep it going with Step Up November for our 30 Day Joy Challenge. You will need some type of device to track this challenge whether it’s your iPhone, fitness watch, or step counter. If you don’t have one, here is an inexpensive one to try. It’s on sale for under $30. I have an Apple watch, but I also use my iPhone. Sherry uses a Garmin. I used to have this Garmin and quite frankly I like it as much as my Apple watch if not more.

Here’s how to track fitness on your iPhone:

  1. Open the Health app (see picture above) and tap the Summary tab. 
  2. Tap your profile picture  in the upper-right corner. 
  3. Tap Health Profile, then tap Edit. 
  4. Add your information, like height, weight, and age. 
  5. Tap Done. 

To view your steps:

  1. Open the Health App
  2. Click Browse at the bottom of the screen (you can also click Summary and it’s in there)
  3. Under Health Categories, click Activity
  4. Click Steps

What is the challenge?

8,000 steps a day for 30 days, along with a 15 second plank. We should all be walking a minimum of 10,000 steps a day, so this might not seem like much of a challenge. Where the challenge comes in, it has to be for 30 days! No breaks. Some days, you are going to be really busy! You are going to need to get up earlier and get started. If you are at a desk all day, take breaks every 30 minutes and do a few laps around your office or go get some water. Every step counts and it can add up quickly.

When does it start?

November 1-30, 2020 (no breaks for Thanksgiving so get up extra early to get started)

Rules

  1. You must follow 30 Day Joy Challenge on Facebook. Every day, look for our post (it will always start with the day i.e. Day 1) and comment after you meet your daily challenge. You can comment with a check mark, emoji, picture, or anything you want. During our last challenge, it was fun to see everyone’s pictures. We even had a recipe shared, which was great! We LOVE comments. If you don’t want to comment in the post, feel free to send us a DM/PM. That’s fine too! However, we’ve found participants comments have motivated the group. I know there were times I pushed myself a little more because of it.
  2. Tag a friend to join too. It doesn’t matter if they join or not.
  3. Walk or run a minimum of 8,000 steps for 30 days. It doesn’t have to be consecutive and we don’t care how you get there. You can walk, run, shop, clean, or walk in place while watching TV. The main goal is to move.
  4. Plank for 15 seconds for 30 days. You should be able to do 30 seconds. You can do this on your knees if you have to at the beginning, but you shouldn’t have to do this for long. Your arms and core will get strong quickly!
  5. Get outside if you can. Let’s keep infections low by getting outside.
  6. November is a time for thanksgiving, so think about three ways you are blessed and grateful for each day! Share with others why they are important to you. I am going to buy four cards this month and write a note to four people that have blessed me. Getting a card in the mail is a dying art. I’m old and I still love to get mail!
  7. Have fun! This is the MOST important. Getting fitter and having a clearer mind are the side benefits.
