7 Tips for Working from Home

So many of us are on the Stay at Home; Work From Home order. Who knew it wouldn’t be that simple to just move the office to your home. In theory it’s a great idea, until you realize you’ll also be working along side your kids who are currently home schooling. Not to mention your spouse may also have moved the office home.  I think we’ve all come to realize, it’s not easy.

What I’ve found important is creating a space that isn’t too comfortable, yet provides a calm, organized vibe. Not too comfortable sounds strange, right? If we’re too comfortable, we’re less productive. I like to surround myself with minimal distractions in my work space.

Today I’m sharing a calm serene office inspiration and a few tips that have really helped me navigate a difficult situation.

Create a Calm & Minimal Office Space

Seven Tips for an At Home Office

  1. Get dressed and ready for the day as if you’re heading into your office.
  2. Be comfortable but not too comfortable. I know, I’ve been there. I have been tempted to just fire up the laptop, drink my coffee and start my work day from the comfort of my own bed. That’s for Sunday shopping friends. Get your okole (butt in Hawaiian) to your desk!
  3. Use your planner! Create your to-do list every morning and stick with it. In fact your brain releases dopamine from the mere pleasure of checking tasks off your list. A feeling of accomplishment truly does bring you joy!
  4. Keep your regular work hours. This can be a challenge but the sooner you enforce that schedule with yourself AND your family members the more productive you will be.
  5. Coffee is important in my world but not too much coffee. All in moderation. Remember when you start to feel that afternoon slump, ask yourself if you just need more water.
  6. Shallow breathing is a thing and it can cause all sorts of issues. Make sure you take many deep breathes throughout your day. We tend to not breathe as deeply as we should, especially when we are deep in a project or are feeling stressed.
  7. Step away from your work for breaks. If you’re hungry, again ask yourself if you need more water. Take a quick walk outside and get some fresh air to recharge a bit.
