Your Own Twist Staycation Linkup

We are super excited to be co-hosts for the Your Own Twist Linkup Staycation style with Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge and Monica of Jersey Girl, Texas Heart this week.

Today we’re sharing our super laid back vacation style. Starting with our v-neck t-shirts. Seriously, it is so versatile for so many events. These are the shirts every girl needs in her wardrobe and the perfect staycation vibe.

Sometimes the best vacations are the ones where you just stay on your home turf. We decided to head down the road to a place I had not been to in years to show my kids along with my niece and nephew. We spent our childhood days exploring these hills. Why we never visited in our adult life is beyond me. This was the perfect opportunity to feel nostalgic and explore with family.

The Pembina Gorge State Recreation area is located in the Northeast corner of North Dakota along the Pembina River. We decided to walk the four mile trail loop. It was a gorgeous well groomed path. If you have an ATV, mountain bikes or horse you can also ride on this path a little further.

If digging for fossils is on your bucket list. This is the place to go. The Paleontological Resource Management Program, a department of the North Dakota Geological Survey, holds an annual fossil dig.

Other fossils that have been collected are bones of the spine of the Xiphactinus. Scientists working in the Pembina Gorge dig site have claimed they’ve rediscovered the bone layer the species monasaur.

Hawaii is a beautiful paradise but this will always be my home and we find great joy in spending time with our family here every summer.

The Lake

Our lake is our home away from home. Don’t get me wrong, we still travel in the summer, but we can usually be found with sand in our toes and not a worry to be had. Well, usually anyway!

There isn’t a restaurant or any frills on the lake. We cook every meal, but the view is better. Fortunately, we do have a gas station and an ice cream shop.

We have tons of things we love to do. Surfing is our main form of entertainment, but the kids wakeboard, wakeskate, tons of swimming, paddleboarding, parties with friends, and just good old family time. This summer we tried to pull 10 adult skiers behind one boat for the Fourth of July celebration. We were not successful with 10, but we did manage to pull up six. I still say that’s a feat in itself. Last year, we pulled up 10 kids, so that was really fun.

We have an area on the lake we like to gather during the heat of the day to cool off. We usually all tie our boats up and bring out food and drinks to share.

This is a Watermelon Refresher my friend and I made together. It was very refreshing and relaxing. View our recipe for it here.

Saturday’s usually mean golf in the morning for the men and a coffee cruise for the women. It’s a win/win for us all. The kids are usually still in bed recovering from surfing all day and campfires at night.

Our memories at the lake will be memories we will all cherish forever. That’s why we choose this as our vacation/staycation.
