Milford Track: Day 3 Part II

Part II of this hike was the part I had been agonizing about. As I sat by the pond eating my lunch it was heavy on my mind about scaling this mountain. But great news! The trail had been fixed, I was beyond relieved. I kept wondering when we’d get to that point. So finally at about this spot I asked. Where is that sketchy part. I was assured we were already past it. Thank God!

This was by far the hardest day for me. Although, the guide patched my toes up it was still pretty rough going down with all the steady friction. But it was so stunning. The stairs were amazing. How can this be literally out in the middle of no where.

We discovered that my husband dropped his phone in this area. He had to go below the bridge to grab it. That was a little adventurous and probably not at all recommended by our guides but thankfully he recovered it safely.

One of the things that was most difficult about this part of the hike was thinking we didn’t have much longer. Especially after the climb to get to MacKinnon Pass. I thought going down would be a breeze but it wasn’t. Luckily we had the gorgeous waterfall to follow the majority of the way.

Even though there were stairs and nice paths that we descended after the MacKinnon Pass.  It took a lot of concentration not to trip over my own two feet. We have muscle memory and those stairs do not match. That made the walk more of a challenge than I had anticipated. However, it was pretty nice not sliding around in mud or walking over rocky paths. Each stretch was a little different as we crossed streams and rivers. It was a picture perfect day all around.

Quintin Lodge

It was a big day but I was never so happy to see our accommodations for the night. Tired beyond belief! We got settled in and were able to take a quick hike to the Sutherland Falls right before dinner. We didn’t come in last but somewhere in the middle of our group because I slowed way down on Part II of the hike.

Sutherland Falls

Each day we thought it couldn’t get any better than this. We were wrong every time! Truly an experience. Stop back next week to see how we wrapped this journey up. It was celebrated with one heck of a party at the end!

Quiet, peaceful, serenity. Tucked away in these mountains.
