This week for our five favorite’s, we are talking about our top 5 oil free facial sunscreens. May is skin cancer awareness month, so this is the perfect time to talk sunscreen. Skin cancer has hit both Sherry and I personally. My good friend died from melanoma. My mother-in-law had a staged mitosis melanoma. I had a pre-melanoma removed, which was scary! When I got my biopsy, they didn’t like what they saw. They were able to remove everything, however, which was a blessing. If you have any spots that look suspicious, make sure to go in and get checked. It’s something you can do for yourself.
Oil Free facial sunscreens have been very difficult for me to find. If you’ve been around here for awhile, you know my skin is super sensitive. I don’t want to breakout, but I also don’t want any more sun damage to my skin. Along with wearing a hat, here are some of my favorites that have been tried and true for me.
Revision Intellishade Matte SPF 45
The reason I like Intellishade is it does everything in one step. It’s a moisturizer with some coverage and it has built in SPF 45. It also has a long list of age defying ingredients for the skin, including peptides, vitamin C, and more. This is a win-win if you ask me. Downside? It’s expensive. However, if you look at the fact you don’t have to buy separate SPF, foundation, and moisturizer, it’s actually LESS expensive!
EltaMD UV Clear Facial SPF 46
My second favorite, which can almost be a tie with Intellishade is EltaMD’s Clear Facial sunscreen. I bought this at my dermatologists office and it’s great. It’s doesn’t leave a white film on your face and will not break you out. I love this stuff! It’s free of fragrance, oil, parabens, and other ingredients skin doesn’t like. What it does have is hyaluronic acid and other vitamins/acid for your skin. It’s also a good price point around $35.
La Roche Posay Anthelios SPF 60
This was the first sunscreen Sherry and I both found a couple years ago that we both agreed on. It didn’t break either one of us out and her daughter (very sensitive skin) was also able to use it. It’s water resistant and also fragrance free. This sunscreen protects your skin at the cellular level with their patented formula. This is another great price point coming in at under $30 and also has high ratings in places it is sold.
Colorescience Sunforgettable SPF 30
The reason I like this is plain and simple. It’s easy. I can’t stand reapplying sunscreen all day (but you need to) and with this, you literally just grab it from your beach bag and brush on. No goop, no mess. It’s oil free and chemical free. The downside? The price. It’s almost $70.
SkinCeuticals Light SPF 50
This was one of the very first sunscreens I found that worked for my skin. Another oil and fragrance free formula that doesn’t leave any type of residue on your face. I don’t think it probably gives me the most moisture, but I have pretty dry skin. If I use this, I also need to use a moisturizer as well. It’s good for all skin types. Usually you will find this at your dermatologist’s office.
Another way to get your sunscreen to absorb better is to remove your facial hair. Click here to find out how I get rid of unwanted facial hair.
If you are out in the sun, stay safe with some good facial sunscreen, as well as reapplying sunscreen to your body often. Enjoy!
