Bring the Outdoor, Indoor with Decorative Plants

Decorative plants are an easy way to add some freshness and a sense of calm to your home. There’s something about indoor plants that can quickly lighten your mood and make you feel happier even if they are faux. I like a little mix of both. My thumb isn’t the greenest, so the real ones have to be hardy.

A list of hard to kill plants can be found here. I can attest to this being accurate because I’ve owned them all. My aloe plant is a survivor. I moved it to my basement when I was doing some sprucing up and forgot about it for awhile and she’s still alive! Plus, you can actually use this plant for more than just feeling good. I use aloe on my face, for burns, and you can even ingest it when prepared correctly. You can usually buy some really nice plants for inexpensive prices at Home Depot, Lowe’s, and even Walmart. The pots they come in are rarely nice, which is fine, because I like to put them in my own pots or baskets.

The style of decorative plants has really improved. You can find several ways to decorate around them. Put smaller ones in decorative kitchen trays, place on books, on shelves, etc. There’s really no limit to what you can do with decorative plants. You can also get some really good quality plants for under $10! These are handy if you are entertaining and need a nice centerpiece for several tables.

This year the fig and olive trees are trending strong. They add that extra style to your room and range anywhere from $100 on up. They really look beautiful in woven baskets.

  2. I do love having plants around the house – but they need to be sturdy as I’m not the best at looking after them. For a few years, I have had a Christmas cactus plant. I do try to look after her and then she rewards me with beautiful flowers that seem to last quite a while. xx
