May is skin cancer awareness month and we have been focusing on our favorite five sunscreens. Today we will talk about sunscreen for places we typically don’t think about like the scalp and lips. Also, don’t forget your eyes. Here are some of our top picks, including a sunburn soother.
For the Lips
I have burned my lips more times than I would like to mention. One of the times, I burned them so bad in Florida when I was wearing lip gloss while suntanning (dumb, I know…this was years ago) and I woke up with HUGE lips! I was so embarrassed. It didn’t even cross my mind to wear sun protection on my lips. One of my favorite go to sunscreens for my lips is Sugar Lip Balm Sunscreen SPF 15. Not only does it give you SPF, you also get some color, along with great moisture.
Bring on the Bum Bum
If you’ve been reading the blog for awhile, you know about our love for Bum Bum cream and now they make Bum Bum Sol Oil SPF 30. Now you can enjoy this fantastic scent as a sunscreen. I’m in love!!
Scalp Help
Another area I tend to forget about it my scalp. My husband wears a hat most of the time, but when he doesn’t, a good scalp sunscreen like Coola Scalp & Hair Mist Organic Sunscreen SPF 30 is a must.
Bum Bum + Sun Bum
We love our Bum, Bum, but we also love our Sun Bum. Sun Bum Original Sunscreen Spray is our go to summer sunscreen. It’s not only good for you, but good for the environment. Sherry really loves Sun Bum since it’s safe for the ocean. You can watch for specials at Ulta. Usually once or twice a year, they will run a buy one, get one 50% off special.
Soothe Me
If you do wind up with a sunburn, try Uncle Bud’s Hemp After Sunburn Soothe. The reviews are great and it’s under $10.
We have a bonus product we would like to share: Yes To Cucumbers Calming Paper Face Mask. Let me tell you about this under $3 life saver! My son was ice fishing last winter and didn’t think about applying sunscreen. It was winter and still very cold. However, as we know, the suns rays are very strong. He came home and was extremely sunburned. His whole face was so puffy! I was actually a little scared. I happened to be at Target and thought what the heck, so I picked up a calming facial mask from Yes to Cucumbers. He put the mask on, waited the appropriate time and after he washed it off there was a significant difference in his burn. I was kicking myself for not taking a before and after, but I never dreamed it would work so well. The difference was very noticeable. I don’t know if it was a fluke or not, but I would definitely try it again.
