If there’s a quick and affordable way to change out your decor, you can simply put together some new throw pillow ideas. Throw pillows can range in price from $10-$100+. I find myself purchasing most of my throw pillows from Target or somewhere affordable for the most part with exception of a couple “investment” pillows. There’s a difference, but I think it’s subtle, especially if you are using them to decorate. If you are using them for comfort, that’s another story. I have my “decorating” pillows and my “comfort” pillows. You really do need both!
First, when putting together your throw pillow ideas, you want to keep in mind textures, design/print, and color. I always start off with deciding what my accent color is and go from there. Usually this will be my solid pillow color and after that you can start playing with mixing prints. Secondly, do not be matchy, matchy. It’s better to have all different types of colors and patterns. Finally, use different sizes. In addition to your regular square or rectangle pillow, I like the addition of lumbar pillows mixed in.
With your throw pillows, don’t be afraid to throw them everywhere. I have some in baskets, around my fireplace, etc. It makes my room feel cozy. HGTV always puts together some great finds. Check out their 20 Rooms That Prove the Power of Pillows.
In the end, I don’t think there’s really a right or wrong way to decorate with pillows (other than matching too much). Have fun with it! You really can change the whole look of a room with just a few pieces.
