How to Decorate Your Dining Room Table

You would think if there was one easy area to decorate in your house, it would be decorating your dining room table right? Wrong. There are so many things to take into consideration. Do you eat there often? Entertain? Long or short table? Rectangle or round? You are getting the drift. Some people like one single statement piece as their centerpiece and others like more variety.

Table Coverings

First, let’s talk table coverings, which again depend on a lot of things. Do you have pets? Is your wood dark or light? Things like that. I have three cats in my house, plus the wood on my table is dark, so I opt for a tablecloth otherwise I would be dusting 24/7. I’d rather throw my tablecloth in the washer on a regular basis. Plus, I think it looks more decorative in my home. It’s a bit of a statement piece. If I don’t have a tablecloth on, I use a runner since I think it makes your centerpieces look neater and helps protect your table from scratching.

I had a white tablecloth on my table for years and years. I just got this one and I love it! It added a whole different look to my dining area. The price was right and I was surprised at how good the quality is. I was very happy with this purchase. I am very picky when it comes to tablecloths.

You can also use chargers or placemats as a nice table covering and change them out often depending on the season or holiday.

Centerpieces

For your centerpieces, you can do a variety of things. Trays add style when filled with a smaller plant, some beads, and other small decor pieces like candles or metal objects like these. There’s really no limit how you can style your tray.

Large pillar or tapered candles (a set of two of these would be pretty) are also very pretty on their own. Mix and match for more contrast. Adding this geometric bowl to the mix would be pretty as well.

A large vase with several branches is always a win. I’m really into the olive branches and cherry blossoms (cute with a clear vase) right now. They are so pretty! Always get an odd number of branches for a full look.

Decorative bowls are always nice filled with decorative balls or with fruit.

Of course, you can add green garland to add more color.

As you can see, your dining room table can be fun to decorate and you can switch it out on a regular basis simply by changing the tablecloth or runner. For other decor ideas, click here.
