If you’ve been following Just Live Joy for awhile, it’s probably obvious Brandi and I are both animal lovers. All of the animals. Between both of us we’ve had quite the array over the years. We’ve lost count. I’ll give you a little background on my latest pets. We have mules, two of them. “Why mules”, we’ve been asked more times than I can count. Up until this point I can’t say that I had any knowledge of mule behavior. Fast forward a year, we’re far from experts but we know a heck of a lot more. I’ve absolutely fallen in love with these boys. They are very affectionate, loyal and sensitive animals. Although they are known for being stubborn it’s much more the fact that they are very intelligent creatures.
Through all of this I discovered the Moscow Mule is my new favorite drink! Obviously the name is what lured me in since I’m a thematic person and all. I had this idea in my head that a Moscow Mule is what an elderly man smoking a cigar would drink. I’m not even sure why. So I never tried to make one. Did the Mules drive us to drink? Some days, maybe. 😉 My husband found this recipe after a long hot day working with the boys on the ranch. The Ginger Beer has a little spice to it giving it a little zing! It’s so refreshing!!
Never underestimate the human and animal connection. Just a few minutes with them fills my soul with so much peace and joy.
Our mules didn’t come from a mule rescue but since learning so much about these amazing creatures the Lost Meadow Mule Refuge’s has become one of our favorite places to support. It’s a rescue and rehabilitation facility located on a 172 acre former dairy in San Angelo, TX. Thankfully I don’t live in Texas otherwise we’d probably have our own mule rescue because we love them so much.
The San Angelo facility is home to around 1,000 equine at any given time.
